This motif comes from Akrotiri on what is now Santorini.

The saffron gatherers are one of the most famous motifs in Minoan wall painting. This young woman climbs a hill with almost dance-like movements while picking crocuses with both hands. The painter shows us the girl's jewellery and clothing in great detail: headband, earrings, bracelets and anklets, and fabrics with various patterns.

Recent research has shown that the blue ‘cap’ on the heads of some figures represents a shaved head. This was a characteristic of children and adolescents of both sexes. Usually, only a lock of hair on the forehead and a lock on the scalp were left untouched. It was only with the transition to adulthood that both sexes allowed their hair to grow long.

The elegance of the lines and the fresh liveliness of the expression in the Minoan frescoes still impresses today. Bring this beauty into your home!

My painting takes every little detail into account, from the patterns of the fabrics to the faithful reproduction of all cracks, chipped and restored areas. This is craftsmanship of the highest standard and museum quality.

The size of 0.92 x 0.74 m is the original size of the fresco section (as in the first picture). It can also be made in other sizes. For a custom size that is not available here, please send me an email at mail@anekah.de and I will send you a price quote.
