I am Anekah
Even whilst I was studying theatre painting and theatre sculpture at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, one question kept nagging at me: how did people paint thousands of years ago – and why do their images still move us today?
Since 2006, I have been working freelance for theatres, institutions and private clients. Yet my greatest passion lies with antiquity – its colours, its stories, its timeless beauty.
Through my wall hangings, I want to convey just that: a spark of that bygone era that continues to shine in your home.
What makes my wall hangings so special
Thousands of years ago, artists painted their works directly onto fresh lime plaster – as frescoes that became one with the wall. It is precisely this technique that has ensured we can still admire the vibrant colours today. But who actually takes a plaster wall home with them?
My wall hangings bring that same radiance to cotton fabric. I paint every motif by hand using acrylic paints – including every crack, every sign of weathering, every later restoration. Because that is precisely what makes ancient frescoes so vivid: they tell not just a picture, but a story spanning thousands of years.
The result arrives as a feather-light, rolled-up package – and can be hung using a simple curtain rod. And if you move house or want to see the picture somewhere else? Simply take it down and rehang it. It's a companion for life.
The materials ensure this too: high-quality cotton fabric, just like that used for artists’ canvases, and lightfast paints that make no compromises.
You can ensure a long lifespan yourself by displaying the picture in a dry, weather-protected place, preferably indoors. Just as you would treat a painting on canvas.

Video about the creation of the Villa di Livia reproduction
Here you can watch me at work. The motif here is Livia's garden from the Villa di Livia.
If you would like to learn more about how I create my works, there is a whole blog article about it here.
A journey through time: the frescoes in their original splendour
On request, I can create a ‘new’ version of your chosen motif. The frescoes in their current state have their own charm, but we would still like to see what they looked like when they were new and in all their glory. How did the artists create their work? What luminosity of the colours enchanted the viewers? Rediscover your desired motif and accompany me on the journey of a painterly reconstruction.
To do so, simply order the motif in the desired size and add ‘AS NEW’ as a comment. Or contact me directly at mail@anekah.de.
