This handcrafted wall hanging depicts Adam and Eve with the serpent in Michelangelo's Paradise. It is a detail from the Sistine Chapel in Rome. All the cracks were meticulously painted over. The colors match the original hues after restoration. The use of distemper paint gives the surface a particularly matte finish, closely resembling a genuine fresco. The picture dates from 2003 and hung on my wall for a while, so it shows considerable signs of wear. In many places, the paint has cracked, revealing the white primer underneath. Personally, I think this contributes significantly to the impression of an old, crumbling mural.
Michelangelo, Sistine Chapel
This wall hanging is painted with acrylic paints on cotton muslin. It has a loop sewn into the top for hanging on a curtain rod. A loop is incorporated at the bottom so a rod can be inserted for a smooth, drapey look.
